Glock 19 disguised as Nerf gun seized in North Carolina drug raid

A drug raid in North Carolina turned up narcotics, cash and plenty of guns, including a Glock 19 semiautomatic pistol disguised as a toy Nerf gun.

Police from several jurisdictions executed a search warrant at a residence after gathering evidence of narcotics possession at the home, according to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

Police seized quantities of cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana, as well as $2,300 in cash and 20 pistols, rifles and shotguns.

Biden and ghost guns

I went online this morning and Googled “How to Make a Glock at Home.” In a trice, I came up with 26.4 million hits for websites offering all the component parts, together with assembly directions. Some of the companies offering do-it-yourself kits accept payment in Bitcoin or some other crypto currency.

It is perfectly legal under federal law to make your own gun at home, you just can’t sell it. You may use it to stir your coffee, but you certainly can’t use it to commit a crime. Some states make possession of an unlicensed handgun illegal outside the home. The Supreme Court, in its wisdom, held there to be a personal Second Amendment right to possess an unlicensed gun at home. Whether the right extends to carrying unlicensed guns in the street or on the subway awaits further decision.

New York Times reporter last year assembled in a Virginia garage a gun kit for a Glock 19 that he had purchased online. It took him six hours, but he said he could have done it more quickly the second time. He picked Virginia as the place of assembly since it was the nearest state where he could legally take the unlicensed gun to a range for testing. The gun functioned perfectly.

The difference between a homemade Glock and one you buy in a gun shop is the absence of a serial number. Since 1934, when the Congress passed its first gun law, assigning a unique serial number to every imported or manufactured gun assumed mythic importance.

Law enforcement cannot easily trace guns assembled with 3D-printed components or from kits and parts available online. Gun kits are unregulated, and there is no record of the sales. They are called “ghost guns.”

But it is unclear how much serialized guns help law enforcement bring criminals to justice. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) claims it used serial numbers to “process” requests to trace 450,000 guns in 2019. But it has never released figures on how many gun serial number traces have led to an arrest.

President Biden last month sought to fulfill a campaign promise on ghost guns by proposing a set of regulations requiring retailers to run background checks before selling the kits for homemade manufacture, and to include a serial number on the gun’s frame or receiver. The proposed rule provides that anyone selling a ghost kit must first log the kit into an acquisition and disposition book, give the kit a unique serial number, require that the buyer fill out a form and pass a background check.

The Justice Department justifies the rule by citing 23,906 reports of ghost guns being connected to crimes during the five-year period ending Dec. 31, 2020. How many of these guns were stolen, how many once had serial numbers but the numbers were rubbed off, no one knows. The proposed rule must go through lengthy public comment before it is finalized; and, quite predictably, there is strong opposition from the NRA, which has launched a $2 million campaign to oppose the Biden gun agenda.

Search of suspicious male turns up replica handgun

A report of a male acting erratically behind the Campbell River Curling Club on Cedar St. around 10 p.m. on April 26 resulted in Campbell River RCMP investigating

The report initially indicated that the male may be prying wood off the back of the building and officers thought that it may be the first reported instance of people trying to steal wood for it’s value, a Campbell River RCMP press release says. That however, was not the case, the man in question was high on illicit drugs and using an exterior plug to charge his phone. However, during the investigation, officers located a BB gun on the male that was an exact replica of a Glock 19 9mm hand gun.

“It seems like at least once every couple of weeks that we are finding these types of replicas in the hands of the wrong people,” said Const. Maury Tyre, Campbell River RCMP media relations officer. “Unfortunately these replicas are often used in the commission of offences and they are very difficult to differentiate from the real thing until you can get your hands on them. People are reminded that if they own these kinds of replicas to treat them as if they are the real article and safely transport them to avoid any confusion or danger.”

If you have any information regarding criminal activity, please contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221 or in an emergency call 911.

Concealed Carry Showdown: Can the Glock 43x Mos Compete with the Glock 19?

Even though it’s very light and tiny, it still has an excellent grip. A huge improvement over the original 43 pistol’s grip, it’s compact-sized but fits your hand well, offers excellent control, and helps to greatly mitigate felt recoil. The slide on the 43X MOS also features a traditional black nDLC finish, which gives a much more discreet look than the original stainless steel.

It also includes the traditional Glock black polymer frame. While it’s nothing special, it still looks nice and is molded very well. If you’re looking for a well-balanced, easy-to-control pistol, this is the one to consider.

The standard plastic iron sights are nothing special, but thankfully, they’re easy to replace. The 43X MOS includes a small Picatinny rail up top, which allows you to attach any scope you’d like. You can try red dots, lasers, lights, and more. On small pistols like these, however, it can be hard to manipulate the slide with optics attached. That’s why Glock included front serrations to let you do so without any smudging. They truly covered all the bases when it comes to easy handling.

The single-stack magazines included with this pistol can accommodate 10 rounds of ammo. It has a higher capacity than the Glock 36, but some people might still want more. While the pistol won’t fit any magazines made for the original G43, there are 15-round extended options available. It cycles just about anything you put in it, and recoil is especially light for such a small firearm. While it is noticeable, it’s not uncontrollable and nowhere near as bad as some similarly-sized snub-nosed revolvers.
